The Fayette County Recorder of Deeds Office proudly records military discharge documents (such as the DD-214) as a free service to our veterans. Recording your discharge papers ensures a permanent, secure backup of your records in case of loss, damage, or natural disaster—helping to protect access to vital veterans’ benefits for you and your family.
Once recorded, all paper copies containing sensitive information are securely destroyed, and digital images are stored in a protected database. These records are not part of the public record and are accessible only to the service member, their immediate family*, or authorized military and veterans’ service agencies.
To record your discharge, please visit the Fayette County Recorder of Deeds Office located at:
Fayette County Courthouse
61 East Main Street, Uniontown, PA 15401
Please bring:
Your DD-214 or other official discharge document(s)
A valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., PA Driver’s License or U.S. Passport)
There is no fee for this service.
Even if your discharge was originally recorded in another county or state, it is highly recommended that you also record your documents in the county where you currently reside—ensuring faster access to benefits when needed.
If you previously recorded your discharge documents with our office and now require a certified copy, please contact us at:
